St John's, Adlington

St. John’s is the church that refused to fall down. Known within our parish as ‘The Tin Tabernacle’, it is a rare surviving example of the supposedly temporary churches that were built of galvanized steel in Victorian times. Over a hundred years later, the church and its building is still very much here, and very thriving.

Adlington

St. John’s sits on the edge of rural Adlington. It has a loyal congregation, a very intimate and welcoming atmosphere, and its own unique character.

Though it looks very much like a Methodist chapel from outside, St. John’s is Church of England to the core. Worshippers here value the traditional shape of Anglican worship, but have also developed a strong tradition of congregation involvement in shaping the regular family services, which are often led by the children.

Margaret Tate

Margaret Tate, a Reader in the Prestbury ministry team, devotes her energies to leading this congregation, but other members of the ministry team also find that being here regularly to preach or lead worship is a really heart-warming experience, because of the intimacy and friendship that exists in this much-loved ‘tin tabernacle.’
